What are
bunny lines?
Nose wrinkles or bunny lines are slight wrinkles that develop over the nose's bridge. They are not harmful and can often be found charming!
Bunny lines can form when you wrinkle your nose as you smile or laugh, which is why they are categorised as dynamic wrinkles, mainly appearing when doing facial expressions. They usually start from your eye leading diagonally on both sides of your nose. They may not be very visible when you are resting your face but can become more pronounced as you age.
7 Causes of
bunny lines
- Loss of Collagen and Elastin:
as you become older, your skin produces less of these two substances. Collagen is naturally produced by the human body and provides structure, strength and support. Thus, the less Collagen the more your skin is sensitive to gravity, which can enhance your bunny lines.
- Natural facial expressions:
with time, normal facial expressions like talking and smiling can emphasise bunny lines. This is due to your facial muscles contracting as you scrunch your nose when laughing, creating creases. Since you lose skin elasticity as you age, your skin does not bounce back completely as you relax your face, and creases deepen.
- Sun exposure:
as with most wrinkles, exposure to the sun can cause bunny lines to develop, particularly if SPF is not used frequently. UV rays directly damage Collagen and elastin production, which we know from above encourages the formation of bunny lines on the face.
- Tobacco:
smoking can lead to bunny lines because it increases the breakdown of Collagen and elastin by physically tensing the muscles around your lips.
- Lack of skin care:
the ageing process can be accelerated If you do not have anti-ageing products in your daily skin-care routine. Without them, you won't be supplementing the nutrients you naturally produce less of over time.
- An unhealthy diet:
if you have an unhealthy diet this could accelerate the skin ageing process as you won't be providing your body with Vitamins such as Vitamin A, which enhances Collagen production.
- Dehydration:
dehydration impacts the overall appearance of your skin. This can be characterised by dark circles under the eyes, itchiness, skin dullness and more sensitive and noticeable wrinkles.
3 Ways to
reduce and prevent bunny lines?
Although wrinkles are a natural part of ageing, you can prevent them and fade them with several actions including the application of anti-age creams, reduced facial expressions and facial massages.
- Skincare Routine
Boost Collagen and skin elasticity by investing in an effective skincare routine. The NIVEA Q10 anti-wrinkle revitalising night cream, enriched with Q10 is 100% identical to the Q10 produced by your skin. The ingredient can be easily introduced into your skincare routine to bring 24 hours of hydration and achieve more skin elasticity.
- Facial Expressions
Facial expressions can cause wrinkles, and people who crinkle their noses as they laugh might be more likely to get bunny lines as they age. However, this does not mean you should stop your face from being animated, laughing or smiling! You could however make yourself aware of the posture of your face on a daily basis, and relax it to rest your face muscles more.
- Facial Massages
Facial massages can also help you reduce the appearance of your bunny lines, as it can encourage lymphatic drainage, muscles tension relief and stress reduction. By massaging your face, you will encourage more blood cell production in the skin, bringing more oxygen to help absorb products more effectively.
